Gap formula and worked example

Gap % = (live indicative price − perp price at the last official close) ÷ perp price at the last official close × 100.

Worked example (16:05 UTC on Oct 27, 2026): (29,702.00 − 29,286.00) ÷ 29,286.00 × 100 = +1.42%. The perpetual is 416.00 above its price at the last official close.

Why does this market have a weekend price?

US equity cash markets close Friday at 4:00 p.m. ET and do not reopen until Monday 9:30 a.m. ET. Nasdaq-100 index futures, however, resume Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET on CME Globex—a window many traders call the Sunday open.

Between Friday cash close and Sunday evening, tech earnings leaks, AI headlines, and macro surprises still matter. A 24/7 Nasdaq-100 tracker perpetual can offer a continuous quote, but it is not the official NDX index level and can deviate from futures fair value.

Nasdaq futures weekend

Index futures trade nearly around the clock except a short Friday pause. For gap math we anchor to the cash close at 4:00 p.m. ET Friday, then measure how perpetuals moved into Sunday's 6:00 p.m. ET futures reopen. Monday 9:30 a.m. cash open is tracked separately in history for equities.

How to read the gap

The gap percentage compares the current indicative perpetual to the reference close at the last official session end in Eastern time. A positive gap means perps trade above that reference; negative means below. It does not tell you Monday's official open—especially for equities, cash open can differ from Sunday futures reopen. Use the sparkline for path since close, and the history table for frequency of follow-through.

Read concurrent moves across asset classes on the home board. Metals traders often cross-check silver; equity readers compare Nasdaq and S&P 500.

Session clock in Eastern time

Every countdown and close reference on this page is computed with America/New_York, including daylight saving transitions. We do not approximate UTC offsets manually. That means the Friday close anchor moves between 21:00 and 22:00 UTC depending on the season, while the labeled local time stays 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. as appropriate for the asset class.

During the official pause, liquidity on decentralized venues can thin. You may see the gap expand quickly on headlines, then compress as Sunday reopen approaches and hedgers return. The weekend high and low fields summarize hourly candle extremes since the close reference—they are descriptive, not official exchange ranges.

Using history without overfitting

The twelve-week table is a small sample. Same-direction hit rate tells you how often the reopen gap signed the same way as the pre-reopen weekend move; it is not a win rate for any strategy. Median absolute difference between weekend move and reopen gap helps you see whether Sunday open tends to mean-revert or extend. Combine with the full gap archive when you need more than a dozen rows.

If you are comparing FX against metals, remember FX reopens Sunday at 5:00 p.m. ET while COMEX-style products typically return at 6:00 p.m. ET. A synchronized global shock may show up in dollar pairs before it appears in gold's Sunday screen.

FAQ

Is there a way to see where the Nasdaq is trading over the weekend?

Yes. As of 16:05 UTC on Oct 27, 2026, the Nasdaq-100 (XYZ100 tracker) is indicated at 29,702.00 on 24/7 perpetual futures (Hyperliquid xyz market), +1.42% vs the perp price of 29,286.00 at the last official close (Mon, Oct 26, 4:00 p.m. ET). NYSE/Nasdaq cash is closed all weekend and CME index futures resume Sunday 6:00 p.m. ET; the 24/7 XYZ100 perpetual is the only continuous quote in between, and it is indicative rather than the official index level.

How much does the Nasdaq-100 tracker usually move over a weekend?

Across the last 12 weekends in our dataset, the XYZ100 perpetual moved a median of 0.29% (mean 0.39%, max 0.93%) in absolute terms from Friday's 4:00 p.m. ET close reference to the last quote before Sunday reopen.

Is the Nasdaq stock market open on Saturday?

No. NYSE and Nasdaq cash equities are closed Saturday and Sunday.

When do Nasdaq futures restart?

Sunday 6:00 p.m. ET in our model, after the weekly cash close window.

Why use cash close if futures trade earlier?

Many investors benchmark weekend risk to where they stopped trading equities on Friday.

What is XYZ100 here?

A Hyperliquid HIP-3 tracker market for Nasdaq-100 exposure—not the official index ticker.

Can weekend perps predict Monday's open?

Sometimes directionally, but gaps often compress or reverse at cash open—see the history table.

Are market holidays reflected?

Yes for NYSE/Nasdaq cash: listed full-day closures and 1:00 p.m. ET early closes are skipped in the countdown and close reference (NYSE calendar, checked 2026-10-23). CME futures holiday hours are not modeled.

Practical weekend workflow

Many desk traders start with a simple checklist: note Friday's official close, mark where the perpetual traded at that instant, then watch whether the live quote drifts with news or with correlated markets. If dollar FX perps strengthen while gold perps soften, that divergence may reflect relative liquidity rather than a clean macro signal—cross-check both legs on the forex weekend page.

Before Sunday reopen, compare the gap to the median absolute difference in the history table. Large gaps that are unusual versus the last quarter of weekends deserve extra skepticism: thin books exaggerate moves. After reopen, official venues re-establish their own prints; this site does not stream those feeds in v1.

Nothing here is a recommendation to trade. The venue link points to an external comparison page; trading hours follow each venue's own rules. Always read each venue's own terms and risk statements independently of this tracker.
