Gap formula and worked example

Gap % = (live indicative price − perp price at the last official close) ÷ perp price at the last official close × 100.

Worked example (16:00 UTC on Oct 27, 2026): (1.1149 − 1.1177) ÷ 1.1177 × 100 = -0.25%. The perpetual is 0.0028 below its price at the last official close.

Why does this market have a weekend price?

Interbank FX follows a weekly pause: pricing typically goes stale Friday around 5:00 p.m. New York and returns Sunday at 5:00 p.m. ET—earlier than equity futures. That makes Sunday afternoon FX gaps a recurring macro conversation.

Major pairs on this page share one guide but separate live rows. Dollar cycles, yield moves, and geopolitical risk still print in crypto-native FX perpetuals while bank platforms are offline.

Because FX reopens before CME metals and equity futures, weekend FX perps can lead other asset classes into Sunday evening. Compare each major's gap independently—correlation is high but not perfect on thin volume.

How to read the gap

The gap percentage compares the current indicative perpetual to the reference close at the last official session end in Eastern time. A positive gap means perps trade above that reference; negative means below. It does not tell you Monday's official open—especially for equities, cash open can differ from Sunday futures reopen. Use the sparkline for path since close, and the history table for frequency of follow-through.

Read concurrent moves across asset classes on the home board. Metals traders often cross-check silver; equity readers compare Nasdaq and S&P 500.

Session clock in Eastern time

Every countdown and close reference on this page is computed with America/New_York, including daylight saving transitions. We do not approximate UTC offsets manually. That means the Friday close anchor moves between 21:00 and 22:00 UTC depending on the season, while the labeled local time stays 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. as appropriate for the asset class.

During the official pause, liquidity on decentralized venues can thin. You may see the gap expand quickly on headlines, then compress as Sunday reopen approaches and hedgers return. The weekend high and low fields summarize hourly candle extremes since the close reference—they are descriptive, not official exchange ranges.

Using history without overfitting

The twelve-week table is a small sample. Same-direction hit rate tells you how often the reopen gap signed the same way as the pre-reopen weekend move; it is not a win rate for any strategy. Median absolute difference between weekend move and reopen gap helps you see whether Sunday open tends to mean-revert or extend. Combine with the full gap archive when you need more than a dozen rows.

If you are comparing FX against metals, remember FX reopens Sunday at 5:00 p.m. ET while COMEX-style products typically return at 6:00 p.m. ET. A synchronized global shock may show up in dollar pairs before it appears in gold's Sunday screen.

Practical weekend workflow

Many desk traders start with a simple checklist: note Friday's official close, mark where the perpetual traded at that instant, then watch whether the live quote drifts with news or with correlated markets. If dollar FX perps strengthen while gold perps soften, that divergence may reflect relative liquidity rather than a clean macro signal—cross-check both legs on the forex weekend page.

Before Sunday reopen, compare the gap to the median absolute difference in the history table. Large gaps that are unusual versus the last quarter of weekends deserve extra skepticism: thin books exaggerate moves. After reopen, official venues re-establish their own prints; this site does not stream those feeds in v1.

Nothing here is a recommendation to trade. The venue link points to an external comparison page; trading hours follow each venue's own rules. Always read each venue's own terms and risk statements independently of this tracker.
